Among the best gaming “pets” we can find everything from the famous Yoshi to the adorable Pikachu. But there are many more. Come check out these 10 characters loved by everyone!
1. Yoshi (Super Mario World)
This creature that won the hearts of all fans of the franchise first appeared in Super Mario World in 1991 for Super Nintendo. The adorable dinosaur that loves to eat has definitely come and stayed. His main role from the beginning was to help Mario in his adventures to save Princess Peach.
In addition to serving as a mount for the protagonist, he also fed on enemies and objects that crossed his path. He also had the stamina to step between the thorns, often sacrificing himself for his great friend Mario. The animal achieved such popularity among players that it earned its own titles: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island (1995) and Yoshi’s Crafted World (2019).
2. Torgal (Final Fantasy XVI)
The gray wolf Torgal appeared in Final Fantasy XVI accompanying Clive Rosfield, the game’s protagonist. In addition to being highly praised for its beautiful graphics, more mature story and great gameplay, the game greatly pleased PS5 players. And right away, the charismatic pet conquered the fans.
Torgal, always with his owner, appears to help in battles against monsters along the way. But, its biggest highlight occurs in the moments where battles don’t happen, in Final Fantasy XVI. When there are no battles or any imminent danger, players can pet the wolf, thus getting them to empathize with the animal even more.
3. Pikachu (Pokemon)
Pika, Pika, Chuuuuu! I believe that there is no one on Earth who is not enchanted by this Pokémon. This is definitely one of the best gaming pets.
Pokémon debuted in 1997, featuring Ash Ketchum as the protagonist alongside his inseparable companion, Pikachu. The saga helped boost the Game Boy role-playing game, which ended up becoming a worldwide success.
At the time, players could only start their game journey with one of the three starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. Pikachu could easily be found along the journey.
However, due to the success of the yellow mascot, Nintendo had to launch in 1998 for the Game Boy Color, Pokémon Yellow. In this version, the starter Pokémon was Pikachu. In addition to the games, the mascot gained a lot of prominence in manga and movies.
4. Epona (The Legend of Zelda)
Epona is Link’s mare in The Legend of Zelda adventures, without a doubt one of the greatest franchises in gaming history. However, the animal is not as remembered as other characters that have appeared in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. But, from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the mare started to be always present and thus facilitate the arduous journey.
Epona has become a recurring character in other games and many consider her the most famous equine in the gaming universe.
5. BD-1 (Star Wars Jedi: Survivor)
Logically, in our list of the best gaming “pets”, this unconventional pet had to be here. He appears in Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and soon in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. This little companion of Cal Kestis doesn’t usually care about the bad things that can happen to him.
Among his many skills, he can find hidden objects, hack doors and even destroy certain enemies. Even at first glance, not attracting much attention, thanks to his charisma, he manages to win everyone over with his shy manner.
6. Ikaros (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey)
This eagle that exudes its beauty wherever it goes, is the faithful companion of Kassandra and Alexios, being introduced by Ubisoft to help players. Its ability and visual perception are incredible, thus making it a fundamental partner in adventures.
Also, Ikarus manages to link his eyes with those of the protagonists. It could be said that it serves as a kind of drone to have a broader view of a given area. As if that weren’t enough, the eagle manages to mark enemies and items on the map to be collected.
7. Tibbers (League of Legends)
Certainly Tibbers and Annie are a classic game duo. The girl always takes her demonic bear with her everywhere, serving as both a weapon and an inseparable friend.
Even though she is one of the oldest and most well-known MOBA characters, Annie is not very popular right now. It is certainly a great option for beginners, but it often ends up being overlooked.
In the game, Annie uses her fire powers most of the time and thus manages to keep the bear safe in her arms. Likewise, when she reaches a level high enough to use her ultimate, she is able to summon Tibbers’ true form: a frightening beast, giant and full of flames all around.
8. Panda (Tekken)
Panda made her first appearance in Tekken 3, appearing as Ling Xiaoyu’s bodyguard, pet, and best friend. She is one of the animal characters in the fighting game franchise.
The great highlight of Panda is undoubtedly its accessories and different clothes. In general, this friendly bear does not need much effort to win the affection of players, which gained more fans after the Tekken 7 World Championship in 2018. On the occasion, South Korean player Hyeon-ho “Rangchu” Jeong took the title playing with the character.
9. Carpeado/Roach (The Witcher 3)
Usually the protagonist of The Witcher, Geralt, whenever he finds horses he names them Carpeado or Roach. It is almost always mares that accompany him along his journey. This explains why there are more than one Roach in the game, which makes it more difficult to put just one on the list of the best gaming “pets”.
However, the relationship with all of them is very similar, having a strong connection with Carpeado. The animal still proves to be very useful in the game, even doing the heavy lifting.
10. Trico (The Last Guardian)
Rounding out our list of the best gaming “pets” is Knit, a frightening and bizarre creature that was featured in The Last Guardian. Despite being a hybrid beast, giant and composed of parts of different animals, the game shows how it is possible to form a strong bond with the creature.
During the game, the player must solve several puzzles to move forward. Without Trico’s presence, this would be almost impossible. This unique companion never spares efforts to help the protagonist at all times.
